Important Information

Overview of course: Various concepts will be presented throughout the course-including exercises with grammar, pronounciation, listening and reading comprehension, conversational skills, and a look into the lives and cultures of Spanish speaking people.

Requirements and Expectations: Since the learning of a foreign language is an ongoing process, attendance and participation are not only mandatory, but vital to successful learning. Therefore, students should not only attend, but participate in every class session. Some general expectations include the following:

1. Be in class seated on time.

2. Bring your books, pen, paper, and your Spanish notebook every day to class.

3. Keep up with your own make-up work. It is the student’s responsibility to see the teacher for work missed while absent.Any work not made up within a reasonable amount of time will be counted as a “0”.

4. Have respect for your classmates and teacher. Any signs of disrespect, disruption, etc. will be dealt with individually.

5. You should keep a Spanish notebook in a separate folder or notebook. The following should be included: (1.)  a grade sheet for recording your grades (2.) assignment sheets of daily homework (3.) notes taken in class (4.) homework and class assignments (5.) handouts (6.) quizzes/tests (7) vocabulary lists from reading assignments and reading summaries .

Grading: Grades will be averaged based on given assignments, quizzes, tests, and participation in class. Homework and class assignments will count 15% and will be given daily. Quizzes will count 30% and may be given weekly or bi-weekly. Tests will count 40% and be given usually every 2-3 weeks. Honors Portfolio assignments will count 15% and will be given at least once per 9 weeks. You may check Parent Connection each week for an update on your grades.

Grading Scale:

A=91-100

B=81-90

C=72-80

D=70-71

F=69 and below

*Honors classes add 3 points to the final average.

Honor System: Every student will be expected to follow the honor code on each assignment, quiz, and test given. Otherwise, the work will be assigned a “0” and appropriate action taken.
