AP
Important Information
Since Spanish AP will be focusing more on independent or group study, it is imperative that students be extremely disciplined, completing all work by given deadlines, in or outside of class. The format of each class will focus on the four basic skills of learning a foreign language: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. While there will still be focus on learning correct grammatical skills, more emphasis will be placed upon using those skills successfully with practical usage of the language. Typical class formats will include working with partners or small groups in order to sharpen the four basic skills. Activities in and out of class will include the following:
Speaking:
Taping questions and answers using given concepts, tenses, or themes
Taping discussions or narratives concerning given topics or themes
Taping simulated conversations in given situations
Taping opinions or analysis in response to given selections of reading or listening activities
(It would be a very good idea to purchase your own recorder. The digital ones are nice because they do not require cassette tapes. You can find these for around $30 or you can purchase a cassette recorder for around $20 if you shop at Walmart.)
Listening:
Cassettes and activities from lab manual and text-Conexiones
Directed responses, dialogues, narratives-Advanced Placement Spanish, Triángulo, Civilización y cultura
Activities from text-Abriendo Paso, Gramática
Segments from selected videos and Spanish channel
Reading:
Selected websites, magazines, or newspaper articles
Selected readings: Conexiones , Abriendo Paso, Lectura, Tesoro Literario, Triángulo, AP Spanish, Civilización y cultura, Literatura y arte, Prosa moderna
Writing:
Selected essays: Conexiones, Abriendo Paso, Gramática, Abriendo Paso, Lectura, Triángulo, AP Spanish
Selected composition of letters, e-mails, journals, essays, etc.
Research paper (2nd nine weeks): 5-7 pages typed in Spanish (double spaced) about a famous Hispanic person (author, painter, etc.), Spanish-speaking country, customs and fiestas, a historical event involving Spanish-speaking countries or people, the Aztecs, Incas, or Mayas, or another approved topic.
Selected C.D. roms, wesites, text and workbook activities will also be integrated to sharpen grammatical skills, as well as the four basic skills mentioned above.

Notebook
Each student should keep a notebook, which he/she will bring to
class everyday. The notebook should include the following
sections:
Verb tenses and conjugations:
Handouts on each tense-including usage, formation, regular and irregular verb lists and conjugations.
Vocabulary:
Handouts or typed vocabulary lists of all vocabulary presented-Grouped according to theme (when possible)...(TIP, texts, AP wkbk.)
Homework:
Text exercises-all labeled accordingly (name, date, activity)
Compositions, sentences, paragraphs, journals, etc.-all labeled
Other activities completed outside of class-all labeled
ALL WORK SHOULD BE TURNED IN THE DAY IT IS DUE. IF YOU ARE ABSENT, IT IS DUE THE DAY YOU RETURN TO SCHOOL. IN CERTAIN CASES, EXTRA TIME MAY BE ALLOWED. OTHERWISE, LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED-IT WILL BE COUNTED AS A ZERO.

PRÁCTICA FUERA DE CLASE
Para practicar más el hablar, el escuchar, el leer y el escribir, cada estudiante necesitará completar 2 de las siguientes actividades cada semana durante los meses de septiembre, octubre, noviembre, febrero, marzo y abril. Vamos a alternar las actividades (#1, #2 una semana y #3, #4 la próxima semana) y cada persona las guardará en las carpetas de Más práctica. Las actividades valen 30 puntos cada semana.
Hablar: Habla y graba en un casete 10 minutos. Usa las preguntas y respuestas dirigidas / las noticias de esa semana y tu opinión o sentimiento sobre lo que pasa / y un diario de tus actividades diarias. (3-4 minutos de cada)
Leer: Lee 3 artículos en español de la red sobre las noticias en un país hispánico y escribe un párrafo corto en español sobre tu reacción sobre lo que pasa. Haz copias de los artículos. / O lee 30 minutos de la novela, La ciudad de las bestias, escrita por Isabel Allende y escribe un resumen corto en español.
Escuchar: Mira el canal español de la tele 3 días cada semana por 10 minutos cada vez - Escribe un diario del nombre del programa, la hora y un resumen corto en españo..
Escribir:
Escribe 1 página en español
sobre tus actividades diarias. Escribe la fecha en cada
página.
